About Us

Welcome to the Yorkshire Dales Autograss Club, a vibrant community of autograss racing enthusiasts. Established in 1993, our club has its roots in Kiplin, near Scorton, Richmond, where we have fostered a passion for non-contact motorsport on our oval track, approximately 400 metres in length. Our journey began even earlier, around 1984, under the name Catterick Yorkshire Dales, with the prefix C1YD. Over the years, we have raced on various tracks, including West Witton, Spennithorne, Tunstall, and Gatherley, each contributing to our rich history. Today, we continue to host annual racing meetings, bringing together members and fans alike to celebrate the spirit of competition and camaraderie in the Yorkshire Dales.

Evolving Rules and Safety in Autograss Racing

The 'Rules and Regs' of Autograss racing have transformed significantly over the years, primarily focusing on enhancing safety for all participants. Today, the advancements in car technology and track design have made racing not only safer but also more exciting. While some enthusiasts invest heavily in their vehicles, one of the great aspects of Autograss is its accessibility; you can choose to race on a budget that suits your needs, making it a sport for everyone.

Our club prefix is now YD1, we have another club in our league from Solway near Cumbria and there prefix is SL1. They lost their track and have not found another one but they still have a few members that race for their club at our track.

We held our first Nationals at Rushyford in 1998/9. There was a couple of years we didn't race due to the foot-and-mouth outbreak.

We moved to Thornborough around 2006/7 and have been here ever since.  We have one of the best venues in the country and have held a number of Nationals and BAS rounds successfully.

Our membership is growing all the time and it is like one big family - some of the members have been here since 1984 and are still racing.
